A circular walk from Caistor following the Viking Way up the Nettleton Valley, past the historic ironstone mines and back to Caistor through rolling chalk hills and valleys.

Nettleton - Market Rasen 7.75 miles

An interesting walk at the foot of the Wolds, mainly on tracks, paths and quiet lanes. Go through woodland and the attractive village of Claxby before reaching Nettleton.

This walk is part of the Lindsey Loop, a 95 mile route joining the market towns of the Lincolnshire Wolds.
Get off the bus in the Market Place in Market Rasen to walk north, or reverse the route and begin at the Salutation Inn, Nettleton. The walk is mainly on level terrain, passing through the pretty village of Claxby, with the northerly section of the route following the foot of the chalk scarp to Nettleton.

Dales Trails - 10½ miles

This walk follows the Viking Way up the Nettleton Valley, passing the highest point in Lincolnshire at 168m (551ft) above sea level, at Normanby Top. From the ridge there are extensive views all round.

Surprisingly, up until 1968, this rural landscape near Nettleton was the setting for the intensive mining of iron ore, and there is still evidence for this in the valley.
The walk returns along the foot of the scarp slope to Nettleton.
